Konzen named AstroTurf SAC Pitcher of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Brevard’s Tyler Konzen has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week after tallying a pair of saves in conference action.

Konzen began his week with a perfect inning in Brevard’s loss to North Greenville on Wednesday. He then was called upon in the seventh inning to protect a two-run lead in Friday’s series opener with SAC foe Mars Hill. He allowed two hits in three innings of work, throwing 56 pitches to earn his first save of the season.

He followed up that performance with another appearance a day later, this time in the rubber game of the series. Konzen relieved starter Zac Joyce in the sixth inning of the seven-inning affair and allowed only one hit in his two innings of work, facing one batter over the minimum and recording his second save in as many days.

Konzen finished his week with a 0.00 ERA in six innings pitched. He gave up three hits and struck out six batters while issuing one free pass, allowing opponents to hit .120 against him. This marks the first time this season a Brevard baseball player has been honored with a conference award.

Konzen and the Tornados will be back in action tomorrow at Erskine before returning home for a weekend series against Newberry in conference play.
