Lenoir-Rhyne too much for Brevard as Tornados fall in SAC actionMarch 11, 2015
HICKORY, N.C. – The Brevard College women’s lacrosse team dropped South Atlantic Conference (SAC) contest to Lenoir-Rhyne, 20-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Moretz Stadium. The Tornados falls to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in SAC play while the Bears improve to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Sade Allen and Alyssa Barrett had the only two goals for Brevard while Nina Siu picked up an assist. Kayla Henderson had eight saves in net in the loss.
Lauren Donovan led the Bears with four tallies on the night while Aubriana Benedetto, Bailey Leonard and Kirsten Smith each had three goals. Donovan also had two helpers while Benedetto had one. Ines Flueck picked up the win in goal while turning away one shot. Teammate Paula Cortezano allowed one goal in the second half of play with zero stops.
Brevard was outshot 34-4 in the game, including 25-3 in the first half. The Tornados also committed 24 turnovers while only successful on 8-of-24 clear attempts. The Bears had 10 less attempts and were good on all but one.
Benedetto scored quickly as she won the draw control and ran down the field to score 12 seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead for the hosts. Donovan wasted little time herself, scoring 20 seconds later before Barrett cut the lead in half with 29:09 left in the first half.
Lenoir-Rhyne, however, scored `16 unanswered goals over the next 31:57 of game time before Allen ended the scoreless drought for Brevard with eight minutes left in the game. The Bears tacked on two more goals over the final three minutes to make it 20-2.
Brevard will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday to face the Royals of Queens University. The game is slated to start at 4 p.m.
