Brevard represents well in first home contest in 10 yearsMarch 14, 2015
BREVARD, N.C. – For the first time in over a decade, the Brevard College track & field community hosted an event on the Frank Patton Track, named after the generous donor, Frank Patton. The formal ribbon-cutting ceremony was held back in December and the dedication to Mr. Patton and his wife Donna, happened on that same day.
The women’s distance medley team of Leah Jostes, Madison Smith, Ashley Lowe, and Elana Raygoza won the event by beating teams from Erskine, Salem College, and Mars Hill. They finished with a time of 15:04.95.
Hassan Kiprono finished fourth among ten runners in the men’s mile run event with a time of 4:41.33 while teammates Micah Voelzow and Caleb Stanley finished tenth and eleventh, respectively.
Heidi Kaartinen finished second in the women’s mile behind Mars Hill’s Megan Smith. Kaartinen finished in 5:55.60, just 9.42 seconds behind Smith.
Voelzow faced Marcus Foster of Mars Hill in the 400 meter hurdles event, finishing in a time of 1:09.41. Stanley ran the 800 meter, finishing with a time of 2:22.56. Kaartinen also won the women’s 800 meter event, clocking in at 2:45.21.
Lowe and Jostes placed in the fifth and sixth spot in the 5000 meter run. The 4x400 meter relay had the team of Alexis Williams, Raygoza, Madison Smith, and Kaartinen as the only group to compete but they finished in 4:58.75.
Brevard will compete next at the Charlotte 49er Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina next weekend.
