Valdez's win highlights weekend races at University of Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – The Brevard College cycling team continued its pursuit of its first-ever road national title at an event hosted by the University of Georgia on Saturday and Sunday.

The weekend was highlighted by an individual Men’s A Time Trial win by Zachary Valdez and a victory in the Men’s B Time Trial by the team of Regis Bryer, Joshua Cole, Blake Stephenson, and Spencer Lowden.

The Tornado women also performed well in time trial events. Allison Arensman, Sarah Hill, Janelle Cole, and Sarah Fonger teamed up for a second-place finish in the Women’s A event, while Hannah Cook and Samantha Miranda finished third and fourth in the individual Women’s B time trials.

Arensman and Janelle Cole were Brevard’s top performers in the criterium, taking second and third in the A division, while Cook and Miranda were fourth and fifth in the B race.

Joshua Cole rode to a second place finish in the Men’s B road race. “This weekend’s racing was a great experience,” said Cole after the face. “We keep getting better in every race at working together and it’s really shown in the results we’ve gotten.”

The Tornados also got a fourth-place finish from Janelle Cole in the Women’s A Road Race. Hill, Arensman, and Ray Danglemaier provided additional top-ten finishes in various events over the weekend.

The Tornados next compete April 11 and 12 at a race hosted by Milligan College in Tennessee.
