Trojans sweep Tornados on Tuesday afternoon in SAC actionMarch 17, 2015
BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team was swept, 9-0, by Anderson on Tuesday afternoon during South Atlantic Conference (SAC) play at the BC Tennis Complex. The Tornados fall to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play while the Trojans improve to 8-3 and 5-2.
Ivey Welborn defeated Katie Daugherty at the top singles spot in a very tough matchup. Daugherty dropped the first set 6-4, before winning 6-1 in the second set. She then fell in the final tie-breaker set, 10-6. Jule Hermann dropped her match at No. 2 singles to Rebecca Bruning, 6-0, 6-1 while Nirvanna Silva fell in the fourth slot, 6-0, 6-3.
Lisa Pettig, who hadn't played a match since March 2 against Assumption, lost her match 6-3, 6-2 to Mairead Cleary in the No. 3 singles slot. Camille Cameron and Anita Maryskova dropped their decisions by the scores of 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Daugherty and Hermann fell in the top doubles slot to Ivey Welborn and Bruning in a 8-5 defeat. Pettig and Cameron dropped their match in the second slot 8-2 while Silva and Maryskova lost to sisters, Abigail and Lindsay Gregory, 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
The Tornados will look to bounce back as they travel to Hartsville, South Carolina to face the Cobras of Coker College on Saturday afternoon. Like the men's team, the Brevard women's team will also be able to take a few days off after playing on three of the last four days.
