Tornados lead after Cliffs Intercollegiate first round

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Brevard sits atop the leaderboard after the first round of the Cliffs Intercollegiate, hosted by North Greenville University at the Cliffs Mountain Park Golf Club.

The Tornados shot a 290 on the day, just two strokes over par and the team’s lowest round of the year. Queens is nine strokes back at 11-over and is Brevard’s closest competitor in a field comprised of 11 teams, including two ranked in the top 25.

Host North Greenville, which entered the tournament as the nation’s No. 15 team, is a distant fifth in the standings 13 strokes off the pace. No. 21 Malone University, a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member located in Canton, Ohio, is tied with Anderson for the 10th and final spot in the standings 28 strokes back.

Brevard’s Craig Stephen leads the event after 18 holes with a first-round 69 that left him three strokes under par. Oskar Lundgren is tied for second at one under, while Luis Vega is tied for eighth at one stroke over par.

The teams will play the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
