Outdoor Track & Field men's poll released with Brevard picked ninthMarch 24, 2015
ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Brevard College men’s track & field team were picked in the bottom of the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship as voted by the league’s head coaches, announced by the conference office today.
Freshman, Hassan Kiprono, from Iten, Kenya was placed on the watch list for the distance events. Kiprono is competing in his first year at Brevard and had a personal best in the men's english mile event during the Tornado Relay on March 14. He finished fourth of 12 runners in 4:41, which was three seconds faster in his first race back in January. This past weekend he finished the 1500 meter run in 4:12.92 and was 49th among 97 runners at the Charlotte 49er Classic.
Wingate picked up the top spot with 66 points and five first place votes. The Bulldogs are the defending champions from last year’s event where they finished with 231 points, 75 points better than the second place team.
Mars Hill took second place in the poll with 57 points. The Lions placed third in last year’s SAC Championship with 127 points. Queens finished third in the poll with 56 points and three top votes while Lenoir-Rhyne finished fourth in the poll, five points behind the Royals.
Carson-Newman was three points behind the Bears while Anderson was a point behind the Eagles in the poll. Coker landed in the seventh spot with 27 points while Lincoln Memorial placed in eighth and a point behind the Cobras. Brevard finished seven points behind the Railsplitters in the poll.
