Kaartinen put on watch list as Women's preseason poll announcedMarch 24, 2015
ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Brevard College women’s track & field team were picked ninth in the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship as voted by the league’s head coaches, announced by the conference office today.
Senior Heidi Kaartinen was on the women’s watch list for the distance events for the Tornados. The Espoo, Finland native has been a four year member of the squad and finished first of five runners in the 800 meter during the Tornado Relays on March 14. She was six seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
She finished seventh at last year’s championship event in the 800 meter run. This will be her fourth time competing in the championship.
Wingate, who placed second in last year’s SAC women’s Outdoor Track & Field championship, topped the preseason poll with 66 points. The defending SAC champion, Queens finished second in the poll and received seven first place votes with 65 points.
Anderson rounded out the top three with 58 points while Mars Hill and Lenoir-Rhyne came in fourth and fifth, respectively. The Eagles of Carson-Newman had 42 points, which was good for the sixth spot while both Lincoln Memorial and Coker were tied for the seventh spot with 24 points. Brevard was four points behind them.
