Brevard finishes second at Cliffs IntercollegiateMarch 24, 2015
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – The Brevard College men’s golf team entered Tuesday’s final round of play with a nine-stroke lead on the rest of the field, but a four under par team performance by Faulkner University was too much to overcome as the Tornados finished five strokes behind the Eagles in second place.
Faulkner shot the lowest round of any team in the tournament by six strokes, needing 284 shots to complete 18 holes. The Eagles had three players shoot even par or better, including final tallies of four- and three-under by Ray Gordon and individual champion Hrafin Gudlaugsson, respectively.
The Tornados shot a 290 in Monday’s first round to finish just two strokes over par but were 10 over on the day Tuesday. Brevard’s second-place finish at 12 over for the tournament left it five strokes clear of South Atlantic Conference foe Queens for third place. Brevard finished ahead of No. 13 North Greenville by 10 strokes and was 22 shots better than No. 21 Malone University.
Sebastian Strehl and Trym Falch each had impressive final rounds Tuesday, improving on their Monday totals by five strokes apiece. Strehl finished the tournament tied for 18th with fellow Tornados Luis Vega and Craig Stephen at five over par, while Falch rounded out the Brevard contingent at seven over. Oskar Lundgren was the Tornados’ top finisher, tying four other golfers for 13th place at four strokes over par.
Brevard will compete in its third tournament in as many weeks when the Tornados compete at the Tennessee River Rumble Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial University in Loudon, Tennessee.
