Men's golf in third at Tennessee River RumbleMarch 30, 2015
LOUDON, Tenn. – The Brevard College men’s golf team sits in third place just five strokes off the pace set by hosts Lincoln Memorial after the first round of the Tennessee River Rumble.
The Tornados shot a 309 through 18 holes and trail only LMU and fellow South Atlantic Conference foe Catawba, whose first round 307 places the Indians three strokes off the lead and two ahead of Brevard. The Tornados are 21 strokes over par as a team and lead a three-way logjam of teams tied for fourth by one shot.
Luis Vega had the most impressive day out of the Brevard contingent, firing a first-round 74 that left him tied with three other golfers for fifth place two strokes over par and four out of the lead. Sebastian Strehl finished his day at four over par with Oskar Lundgren following close behind at five over. Trym Falch and Craig Stephen rounded out the Brevard contingent at 10 over.
The field is tightly bunched, with nine of the 15 teams finishing the day within 16 strokes of the lead. Second-round action begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.
