Nemeth nets career-high nine tallies but Brevard falls short against Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Brevard College women’s lacrosse team late rally falls short as the Tornados fall to Lees-McRae, 20-19, on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match-up at Tate Field. Brevard falls to 1-11 on the year while the Bobcats improve to 6-4.

Caitlyn Nemeth scored a career-high nine goals to lead Brevard along with two assists. Alyssa Barrett had six tallies while Kelly Kearnan had three goals and an assist. Sade Allen had a tally and an assist while Livia Harrienger and Nina Siu each contributed with an assist. Shelby Arsenault faced 39 shots, allowing 20 goals and had 10 saves in net.

Tiffany Laster had five tallies and an assist to lead the Bobcats while Peyton LeCompte had six goals. Casey Ragen had a three goal day while Taylor Drake netted two goals along with two assists. Jennah Tracy had a goal and five assists while Mia Emmerson had 16 saves on 36 shots faced while allowing 19 goals in net.

Barrett gave the Tornados an early 1-0 lead just 2:02 in the contest with an assist from Livia Harrienger. The Bobcats answered with two goals by Ragen and LeCompte less than 18 seconds apart from each other for a 2-1 lead. Nemeth tied the game at two with 25:10 left in the first half

The Bobcats took a 4-2 lead with a little over 10 minutes gone in the game before Nemeth gathered her second tally of the game with 17:53 left. Drake answered for the home team 37 seconds later before Nemeth netted her third goal of the game 15 seconds after that to make it 5-4 Bobcats.

Barrett scored her second goal of the contest to tie the game at five after she followed her own shot and scored on the rebound just past the midway point of the first half.

After trailing briefly, the Tornados again tied the game at six on Barrett’s third goal of the day with 10 minutes left in the first half. Kearnan contributed with an assist on the play. After the Bobcats regained the lead, Kearnan added a goal to tie the game with a little over six minutes left in the first half before Barrett gave the visitors a lead with 5:16 left in the first half.

Nemeth gave Brevard a 9-7 lead with just under five minutes left before the Bobcats scored two straight to tie the game at nine. However, Lees-McRae went into the half with a 10-9 lead.

The Bobcats opened the second half scoring two straight goals before Nemeth answered for the Tornados. The hosts went on to build a 16-11 advantage with 18:25 left in the game. The Tornados them stormed back to tie the game at 17 as four different Brevard players tallied with 10:26 left in the game.

The Bobcats scored two late goals to force a Brevard timeout with 2:56 remaining but Barrett and Kearnan tied the game at 19 with 2:09 left. Laster scored in a free-position shot a minute later to give the home team a one goal lead.

The Bobcats had a slim 39-26 edge in shots and a 27-26 groundball advantage over Brevard. The Tornados won 22 of 39 draw controls and were good on their one free-position shot.

The Tornados have three home games remaining in the regular season beginning this Saturday against Lincoln Memorial. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
