Lenoir-Rhyne downs Brevard in SAC play Tuesday afternoonApril 7, 2015
BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team fell to Lenoir-Rhyne, 8-1, on Tuesday afternoon during South Atlantic Conference (SAC) play. The Tornados drop to 1-14 overall and 0-9 in the SAC while the Bears improve to 9-10 and 4-4 in conference play.
The team of Katie Daugherty and Jule Hermann picked up Brevard's lone victory in the top doubles match. They defeated Zorica Djuric and Dominique Bruce by a score of 9-7. Lisa Pettig had a close match in the third singles slot against Lucy Stofberg. After falling in the first set by a score of 6-3, she battled back in the second set to win it 6-4. Pettig ended up falling in the third-set tie breaker by a score of 10-5.
Hermann lost in a tough No. 2 singles match against Bruce by a score of 6-4, 6-4 while Daugherty fell in the top singles slot 6-3, 6-1. Nirvanna Silva was swept 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth singles match while Camille Cameron had the same result in the fifth singles match.
Anita Maryskova lost to Maggie Brown in the sixth singles slot by a score of 6-1, 6-1. The combination of Silva and Pettig lost in the second doubles match to Lela Sparks Thompson and Taylor Snowdon by a score of 8-2 while Cameron and Maryskova fell to Jessica Rumple and Amanda Bryan by the same score in the third doubles match.
The Tornados wrap-up their home portion of the schedule on Friday when they host Tusculum. It will be senior day for the Brevard seniors with the match beginning at 2 p.m.
