Tornados compete in Cullowhee in final tune-up before SAC Championships

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Brevard College track & field teams competed at the Western Carolina Invitational hosted by Western Carolina University.

Micah Voelzow had a time of 4:52.43 in the men’s 1500 meter run. He also competed in the high jump event with a 1.70 jump.

Hassan Kiprono, the Kenyan native, ran the 800 meter run in a time of 2:14.40 with Voelzow finishing a little less than eight seconds behind him. Caleb Stanley finished in a time of 2:33.10 in the event also.

Halana Gittens finished 16th in the women’s 200 meter dash in 26.55 seconds. Shawn Deese competed in the men’s 200 meter dash in 27.46 while finishing in 1:02.52 in the 400 meter dash.

Heidi Kaartinen had a time of 1:08.31 in the 400 meter dash. She also ran the 800 meter run in the time of 2:33.03 and placed in the top 25. Elena Raygoza finished five spots behind her in 30th.

Leah Jostes had a time of 5:40.86 in the women’s 1500 meter run while Raygoza and Madison Smith had times of 5:43.87 and 6:03.34, respectively. Ashley Lowe had a time of 22:13.98 in the 5000 meter run.

Alexis Williamson finished eighth in the women’s triple jump. Anne Miller had a 24.36 meter throw in the discus event while throwing the javelin 24.81 meters. Teammate Mary Clement had a 16.14 meter throw in the javelin event as well. Miller also competed in the shot put with a throw of 8.28 meters.

The Tornados will compete at the South Atlantic Conference Championships in Hickory, North Carolina on April 18-19. Click here for complete results.
