Catawba defeats Brevard in SAC actionApril 11, 2015
SALISBURY, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s tennis team fell to Catawba, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) action at the Johnson Tennis Center. The Tornados fall to 4-12 overall and 0-10 in the SAC while the Indians improve to 14-10 and 4-7.
Rory Northam had the lone victory for Brevard at No. 4 singles with an 8-3 victory over Michael Patch. David Taggart and Nathan Sabate each played tough matches at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Taggart won the first set in his match before falling in the final two, including 10-8 in the tie-breaker set.
Sabate also won the first set in his match before falling in the final two sets, with the same exact result in the tie-breaker set as Taggart. George Finch lost 6-1, 6-3 in the second singles slot while Christoph Plasa lost in the fifth slot, 8-1. Richie Liell was swept in the sixth singles match.
Taggart and Sabate fell in a close doubles match to Pierce Hoover and Jack Mordey, 8-5, while Plasa and Northam lost in a close 9-8 match in the second doubles match. Finch and Liell lost, 8-1, in the third doubles match to Iago Montero Nunez and Patch.
Brevard hosts Tusculum tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in its season-finale.
