Plasa and Sabate pick up victory in doubles as Tornados fall to No. 43 TusculumApril 12, 2015
BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s tennis team fell to No. 43 Tusculum, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon during its South Atlantic Conference (SAC) finale. The Tornados ended their season with a 4-13 overall record and 0-11 in the SAC while the Pioneers improve to 17-1 and 10-1.
David Taggart played the No. 10 player in the nation in Lukas Winkelmann at No. 1 singles where he was able to keep up for most of the match. Even though he lost 6-4, 6-3 to Winkelmann, Taggart was making his opponent earn all of his points.
Nathan Sabate and Christoph Plasa got the only win for Brevard in the at No. 2 doubles with an 8-5 victory over Leon Seiz and Tashique Kader. Rory Northam, who played his final match of his Brevard career, and teammate Taggart lost to Lukas and Jonas Winkelmann in the top doubles match, 8-1.
Northam lost to Seiz at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-2. Sabate battled with Jonas Winkelmann at No. 3 singles in a tough match. He lost the first set 7-6 before coming back and taking the second set 6-3 to force a third set tie-breaker. Sabate lost in the tie-breaker 10-1.
George Finch lost 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles in his final match of his career for the Tornados while Plasa was swept by Kader at No. 5 singles. Richie Liell lost 6-1, 6-0 to Toby de Klerk in the sixth singles slot. Finch and Liell lost 8-4 in the third doubles match.
