Rhyne, Mooney wrap up SAC Championship play

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Brevard’s Kelsie Rhyne and ZeAijah Mooney completed play at the 54-hole 2015 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Championship on Tuesday.

Rhyne fired her second-best round of the tournament on Tuesday, carding a 92 in difficult conditions at the Sevierville Golf Club. She finished in 53rd position and was fourth among golfers competing as individuals. Mooney shot a third-round 116 to finish in 60th place overall.

Because Brevard sent two golfers to the tournament, the Tornados were ineligible for the team championship. Carson-Newman won the team title, firing a 306 on Tuesday to match the lowest 18-hole score by any team in the tournament. The Eagles outpaced Newberry by seven strokes and Wingate by eight to earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Lincoln Memorial’s Lindsay Davis won the individual championship at 13 strokes over par, edging Carson-Newman’s Danielle Baiunco by one stroke. Karly Mims and Eline Askeland from Newberry joined Queens’ Grace Glaze on the all-tournament first team.
