ROCK HILL, S.C. – Brevard College men’s golf sophomore Luis Vega was named to the All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Honorable Mention team, announced by the league on Thursday afternoon.
It was Vega’s first nod for the league honors in his second year of competing.
Vega, a sophomore from Madrid, Spain, had his best finish on March 17 during the J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate tournament, where he finished in a three-way tie for third place and was named to the all-tournament team.
His strong effort helped Brevard to a fifth place finish in the tournament. During the event, he had a final round of 76 strokes at the 54-hole tournament and was just six strokes back from the individual champion from King University.
During the Tennessee River Rumble Intercollegiate hosted by LMU on March 30-31st, Vega finished in a tie for tenth place. He had a strong performance of seven-over par at the Cliffs Intercollegiate, helping his team to a second place finish back on March 24.
His most recent event was at Brevard’s own Etowah Spring Challenge, at the Etowah Valley Golf Club nearby campus, finishing in a tie for eighth place with teammate Oskar Lundgren with a four over par.
Vega and the Tornados look to finish the season strong at the upcoming South Atlantic Conference Championship. The three-day event begins on Saturday, April 19 in Marvin, North Carolina at the Firethorn Country Club. To read the full release from the conference, click here.
