Tornados finish competition at SAC Championships, Williamson places third in triple jump eventApril 18, 2015
HICKORY, N.C. – The Brevard College track & field teams competed South Atlantic Conference Championships on the final day of the competition on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne.
Alexis Williamson finished in a three way tie for 12th place in the long jump event with a jump of 4.98 meters. Williamson competed in the triple jump event and took third place with an 11.16 meter jump on the second day of competition.
Savannah Cox finished 13th in the javelin throw with a mark of 26.13 meters. Teammate Anne Miller finished three spots behind her with a 23.33 meter throw. Mary Clement and China Davis had throws of 16.61 and 13.09 meters, respectively.
Senior Heidi Kaartinen finished 19th of 27 in the women’s 1500 meter run during the preliminary run. Elena Raygoza and Madison Smith finished in times of 5:59.29 and 6:07.69, respectively. Participants from Lincoln Memorial, Anderson, Wingate, Mars Hill, and Lenoir-Rhyne finished in the top nine.
Kaartinen also competed in the 800 meter run finishing in 13th during the preliminary run with a time of 2:34.57.
Sophomore Halana Gittens finished 14th with a time of 13.06 seconds in the 100 meter dash. She finished 11th in the 200 meter dash, clocking in at 26.88 seconds.
Leah Jostes and Raygoza competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase event and finished with times of 13:31.24 and 14:14.20, respectively.
On the men’s side, Hassan Kiprono finished in the eighth spot of the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:12.19, during the preliminary event. He went on to finish ninth in the final run on day two. Teammates Micah Voelzow and Caleb Stanley had times of 4:50.41 and 5:08.38, respectively. Voelzow also competed in the high jump. His jump was 1.69 meters.
Shawn Deese ran the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.52. Stanley ran the 800 meter event with a time of 2:29.89.
On day two of the event, Miller competed in the shot put with a throw of 8.44 meters. She also had a throw of 26.42 in the discus throw on the final day with a 13th place finish.
Jostes and Ashley Lowe finished 22nd and 23rd, respectively in the 5000 meter run with times of 21:28.71 and 21:37.76. Kiprono finished in 13th place during the men’s 5000 meter run with a time of 16:22.76.
