ATLANTA, Ga. – The Brevard College cycling team turned in a solid team performance at the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference championships over the weekend in the team’s final tune-up before the road racing national championship in Asheville May 8-10.
Janelle Cole and Allison Arensman scored individual wins for the Tornados at the two-day affair. Cole’s victory came in the Women’s A race on Saturday in the road race event to get the weekend started on a high note. Arensman scored her win on Sunday in the Women’s A criterium race.
Brevard also had strong showings in the Men’s A road race with two of the top five finishers. Nick Jowsey turned in a second-place performance, while Wyatt Briggs finished in the sixth position.
While she was unable to pick up a win in any event, Samantha Miranda was very impressive in all three of her races in the Women’s B category on the weekend. Her best performance came with a second-place finish in the individual time trial. She also finished third in the road race and fifth in the criterium.
The Tornados also did well in team performances, with the trio of Arensman, Nicole Miranda, and Cole finishing second in the Women’s A team time trial. Brevard was also third in the Division II team omnium.
