Tornados net three top-fives in first day of competition

MARSHALL, N.C. – The Brevard College cycling team kicked off its pursuit of the 2015 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championship on Saturday with three top five finishes in the road race portion of the event.


Nick Jowsey was the top-finishing Tornado, who placed second in the 74.5-mile race that began in Marshall and ran parallel to the French Broad River for several miles. Janelle Cole and Allison Arensman were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 49-mile women’s race that included two circuits along the same course.


Tomorrow’s schedule includes a men’s and women’s criterium in downtown Asheville. The women will race for 50 minutes plus three laps beginning at 11:00 a.m. Brevard’s men will take to the course at 1:30 p.m. for 70 minutes plus three laps. The national championship will conclude with a series of time trials in Marshall on Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
