Tornados add seven players for 2015May 26, 2015
BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College women’s soccer head coach Shigyoshi Shinohara is pleased to announce the additions of seven more players to the 2015 women’s soccer team. Lane Berchtold Megan Delicato, Leah Heysler, Victoria Pernia, Rachael Stanford, Dor-othlya Walrath, and Kelly Wilkins will join the Tornados in the fall.
Berchtold, a native from Riverside, California, attended Poly High school and played two years of soccer. She was also very involved in extra-curricular activities in the Associated Student Body group as a leader as well as the Renaissance group.
Delicato, a Jacksonville, Florida native, joins the Tornados after graduating from Mandarin High School, where she was four-year member of the varsity soccer team.
Heysler, who will join the Tornados from Wellington, Florida, attended Palm Beach Central High School where she served as the team captain during her senior campaign. There, she was a two sport athlete, and was First-Team all-conference for both soccer and softball. Her soccer team went undefeated her 2014 season. She helped guide her team to three conference championships along with being state finalists in 2013. Along with her strong athletic ability, she was an honor roll student, a member of the National Technical Honor Society, and attended the NYLF Leadership Conference in Careers for Medicine.
Pernia comes to Brevard from Orlando, Florida, where she attended Timber Creek High School. She was a three-year member of the soccer team and served as team captain during her sophomore and junior years. During her sophomore season, she led her squad in assists and also received a sportsmanship award. A duel-sport athlete, she also played on the varsity flag football team for four years and helped her team become district champions for two straight years.
Stanford, the Charlotte, North Carolina native, joins Brevard from West Mecklenburg High School, where she was a three-sport athlete as well as a four-year member of the soccer team. She was on the all-region team twice, and a four-year starter along with defensive player of the year honors. She also was a four-year member of the tennis and swim teams.
Walrath joins the Tornados from Brevard High School, where she was a two-sport athlete for the soccer and volleyball teams for two years. As a volleyball player, she helped her team to win the conference championship. She was also a member of the youth council for two years.
Wilkins, a native of Lincolnton, North Carolina, joins the Tornados from Lincoln Charter School, where she served as co-captain during her senior year. Her soccer ability, especially on defense, will help the Tornados defense continue to get even stronger this fall. She also received an academic and leadership scholarship.
The Tornados have added a lot of talent with this recruiting class and hope to build upon their most successful season for future success.
