Tornados picked eighth in SAC preseason pollAugust 3, 2015
ROCK HILL, S.C. – The South Atlantic Conference’s coaches have selected Brevard to finish eighth in this year’s preseason football poll.
Brevard is coming off a 1-10 campaign in 2014 that included a resounding win over College of Faith in the season finale. The Tornados racked up 321.6 rushing yards per game, the sixth-highest rushing total in Division II, and led the nation in red zone efficiency at 93.2 percent.
Two-time defending conference champion Lenoir-Rhyne, the 2013 national runner-up and winner of 20 consecutive league contests, was picked first in the poll and received six of eight first-place votes. The remaining first-place votes went to Carson-Newman, which handed the Bears their last defeat in conference play on September 15, 2012 in Jefferson City.
The coaches selected Newberry third after finishing in a four-way tie for fourth in the league at 3-4 in conference play last season. Catawba, owners of the league’s top passing offense in 2014, was picked to finish fourth. Tusculum ended the season by winning five of its last six games and was selected fifth, while Mars Hill and Wingate tied for the sixth spot in the poll.
Brevard will begin the 2015 campaign at Virginia Union on September 5 before returning to Memorial Stadium for the home opener against Bowie State on September 12.
