Turner, Noboa, Allen named preseason all-conferenceAugust 4, 2015
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Three Brevard student-athletes were named to the preseason all-South Atlantic Conference football team today, including a pair of first team honorees.
Sophomore offensive lineman Josh Turner and senior kicker Alex Noboa represent the Tornados on the all-conference first team. Turner, who was named first team all-conference last season following a stellar freshman season, helped clear the way for the nation’s sixth-most proficient rushing attack last season that averaged 321.6 yards per game.
The Tornados led the nation in red zone efficiency in 2014, scoring on 93.2 percent of their possessions inside the 20-yard line. Brevard was also third nationally in fourth-down conversions, largely on the strength of its offensive line. Turner anchors a unit that returns all but one starter from a season ago.
Noboa joined Turner on the preseason first team after setting four single-season NCAA-era Brevard records last season. He solidified a spot on the all-SAC second team in 2014 with a record-setting performance in the final game of the season, making all 10 of his kicks and scoring 12 points en route to earning SAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. He was named last week to the Fred Mitchell Award watch list, an honor given to one small-college kicker per season who demonstrates a commitment to athletic excellence and community service.
Fifth-year senior defensive end Landon Allen, who left the season opener at Western Carolina with a knee injury and missed the final 10 games of the season, earned a second team defensive line selection. The Oakboro, North Carolina native had a standout 2013 campaign with 61 tackles, good for fourth place on the team, and a forced fumble. He was the team leader in yardage lost from his three sacks and seven total tackles for loss. He can move into the top 10 in Brevard’s NCAA-era history with 34 tackles this season and has already claimed top 10 career marks in three defensive categories.
The Tornados open the 2015 campaign in Richmond, Virginia on September 5 with a nonconference tilt at Virginia Union University. The home opener comes on September 12 as the Tornados host Bowie State University.
