Reid bolsters women's golf roster with three signeesAugust 6, 2015
BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard women’s golf coach Shannon Reid has announced the addition of three players to her roster prior to the 2015-2016 season.
"I am excited about the addition of Courtney Sharp, Taylor Scovel, and Maddie Lutz to our women's golf program,” Reid said. “These outstanding young ladies will represent Brevard College with class on the course as well as in the classroom.
Courtney Sharp is a Jacksboro, Tennessee native and is the only non-North Carolinian in Reid’s 2015 signing class. As a four-year varsity player at Anderson County High School, she helped her team to a region runner-up finish and three district championships. She competed on the All-American Junior Golf Tour in 2014 and had a trio of top-three finishes, including a victory at the All-American Cup.
Charlotte native Taylor Scovel brings experience in high-pressure situations to this year’s recruiting class. A Mallard Creek High School product, Scovel completed in the state tournament as a sophomore and helped her team to three regional appearances and a conference championship. She was named to the all-region team three times. In addition to being named a team captain for Mallard Creek in her senior year, she won multiple Tarheel Youth Golf Association events and a Peggy Kirk Bell tournament outside of her prep career.
Maddie Lutz is the first player in the history of Kings Mountain High School to sign to play collegiate golf. Named her team’s Most Valuable Player in each of her four years of varsity competition, Lutz is a two-time state finalist and a four-time conference and regional finalist. Her best finish came as a senior, when she placed fifth in the 3A golf regional held at Etowah Valley Golf Club. She also played tennis for four years and was named MVP on three occasions.
“Courtney, Taylor, and Maddie will all have an opportunity to make an immediate impact upon arrival, which is unusual for most incoming freshmen in athletics,” Reid said. “With our returning class of sophomores, we will be very young but will have a chance to grow together to improve."
The Tornados open their season at the Anderson University Invitational September 14 and 15. Brevard host the Etowah Intercollegiate at Etowah Valley Golf Club a week later on September 21 and 22.
