Brevard picked 7th for women, 11th for men in preseason poll

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The South Atlantic Conference released the 2015 cross country preseason polls on Thursday, with the women voted to finish seventh with the men predicted for an 11th place finish.

The women, who finished seventh in the conference meet last season, return first team all-conference performer Hannah Cook after finishing fifth in the SAC Championship as a junior. Despite not having enough participants to qualify as a team at last year’s championships, Hassan Kiprono finished 12th individually to earn SAC All-Conference second team honors.

Mars Hill was picked to win its 19th straight men’s cross country crown after receiving eight first place votes from the conference coaches. Queens and Wingate earned the other four first place votes with three and one to place second and third in the voting.

On the women’s front, Wingate topped the poll with eight first place nods while Queens received the other four. Anderson rounds out the top three in the poll.

Brevard will opens up the 2015 season at the Chick-fil-A Invitational, hosted by Catawba College, on September 4.
