Cross country set to host first meet since 2012August 28, 2015
BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard distance coach Josh Mower has put together a unique running for the Brevard College Twilight Invitational on September 25, 2015. The meets will take place at the Glen Cannon County Club.
"Glen Cannon is an ideal location for this type of event and has been very easy for the college to work with,” Mower said. “The retired golf course has been sitting there for years and is every runner in town's dream race course, so l found a way to make it happen."
The event will be the biggest of its kind in the cross country program since Brevard transitioned into the NCAA ranks. The team has hosted dual meets on two occasions, with North Greenville coming to Brevard in 2012 and Georgia State in 2008. Current senior and 2014 All-SAC First Team member Hannah Cook helped the Tornados in the 2012 victory over North Greenville with a second place finish. Mower, then a student-athlete for Brevard, led the men with a third place finish in the 2012 event.
There will be five different races happening during the Invitational; a high school girls 5K at 4 p.m., a high school boys 5K at 4:50 p.m., a college women’s 5K at 5:40 p.m., a college men’s 8K at 6:30 p.m. and the glow 5K at 7:30 pm to conclude the day. Entry fee is $175 for a collegiate team of five plus members or $300 for both a men and women’s team, $55 per high school team with a $100 option for bringing both a boys and girls team and $10 student price for the glow run with $15 for adults. Checks can be made out to Brevard College Cross Country at 1 Brevard College Drive, Brevard, North Carolina, 28712.
"I see this course as being a pride of Western North Carolina Cross Country racing for all levels," Mower explained. “The course is an obvious favorite to runners and is one that l am jealous that l did not get to participate in while l owned a uniform.”
