Tornados 11th after first round at Kiawah Island

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Brevard College men’s golf team opened its season Monday at the Cougar Point Golf Club in coastal South Carolina, finishing the first round tied with four other schools for 11th place.


The Tornados were 14 strokes over par through 18 holes, tied with King, Armstrong State, Belmont Abbey, and Barton in the standings. USC Aiken led the way at four under par, with Flagler in second place three strokes back. Tusculum, the leader among the seven South Atlantic Conference schools in attendance, finished the first round in third place one stroke over par.


Brevard was led by a strong showing from Oskar Lundgren, who kicked off his junior season with a first-round 72 that left him tied for 13th at even par. Craig Stephen finished a stroke behind at one-over par, locked in an eight-way tie for 19th place.


Calum McAndrew was next on the leaderboard for Brevard, finishing at six-over par with a first-round 78. Trym Falch and Luis Vega both shot seven-over to round out the Tornados’ contingent.


Brevard will begin its final round action at 10:20 Tuesday morning.
