Kiprono finishes top 10 at College of Charleston ClassicOctober 16, 2015
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Brevard College’s cross country team ran its penultimate race of the season at the College of Charleston Classic, with Hassan Kiprono and Hannah Cook finishing first in their respected non-Division I fields.
Kiprono ran a 26:45.9 8K time, finishing with the sixth-fasted time, including the 62 runners from nine Division I programs. His first place finish in the non-Division I field is the first of his career.
Sidney Noble was the second BC runner to cross the finish line with a 28:51.5 time, good for fourth amongst non-Division I runners. Jordan Lance also finished before the 30 minute mark, finishes seventh in the field with a 29:56.7 time.
Henry Crowder and Caleb Stanley rounded out the men’s unit with 33:55.6 and 34:15.8 times respectively.
Spartanburg Methodist finished first as a team in the non-Division I field, followed by Brevard in second. College of Charleston finished first overall, with Western Carolina and the Citadel filling out the top three.
In the women’s race, Cook claimed her second top finish in as many races after finishing first overall in the women’s meet at the Twilight Invitational, using a 20:28.2 5K time. Her pair of first place finishes is a new record for Brevard since joining the NCAA in 2008.
Following cook in second and third for Brevard were Elena Raygoza and Melia Milne who finished with runs of 23:27.8 and 23:29.2. Ruby Lewis ran a 23:35.6 time for the fourth royal blue and white finish while Rebecca Martin following with a 24:21.5 time.
Brevard finished third in the non-Division I field with SCAD Savannah having the lowest score followed by South Atlantic Conference rival Lenoir-Rhyne. Overall, College of Charleston finished first in the women’s race with Western Carolina in second and Georgia Southern in third.
Cross Country next competes in the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 24.
