Cross country competes in SAC ChampionshipOctober 24, 2015
PINEVILLE, KY. – Brevard College’s cross country teams competed in the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday morning, finishing eighth in men and 11th in women’s.
Hassan Kiprono led the men’s squad with a 26:23.2 time for 11th place, just three seconds shy of a top 10 finish. Jordan Lance just missed the top 25 by two seconds with a 27:03.5 8k time. Following Lance was Sidney Noble, who ran with Lance and finished with a 27:12.8 time.
Micah Voelzow and Caleb Stanley ran the bulk of the race in sync, but in the final stretch Voelzow found a second win and ended up with a 31:41.2 time while Stanley clocked in at 32:36.0. Henry Crowder rounded out the team with a 34:45.9 finish.
Queens finished with an average time of 25:56.48 time, edging Mars Hill’s average of 26:00.06 for first overall. Anderson ended with the third-lowest average time at 27:09.22.
Senior Hannah Cook, competing in her final SAC Championship, paced the Tornados with her second sub-20 5K, clocking in at 19:53.5 for 18th place in the women’s meet.
Coming in second for Brevard was Melia Milne who ran a personal-best 21:58.0 for 64th place, over a minute faster than her season average. Elena Raygoza finished shortly after Milne, running a 22:15.8 time for 69th place.
Ruby Lewis and Leah Jostes ran close to each other, but a late push from Lewis propelled her to a 22:40.2 finish while Jostes crossed the finish line 17 seconds later at 22:56.8 Rebecca Martin was the last Tornados runner to finish with a 23:28.8.
Wingate continued its dominance in the conference winning its’ third-straight women’s meet with an average time of 19:07.76. Queens and Anderson rounded out the top three with average times of 19:27.46 and 19:38.64. Brevard finished with an average time just four seconds shy of Tusculum for 10th place.
