Tornados drop exhibition contest against Division I East Tennessee StateNovember 22, 2015
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Brevard College’s women’s basketball took on East Tennessee State in an exhibition contest on Saturday evening, falling to the Division I opponent 69-46.
Brevard opened up the contest with back-to-back three pointers from Lynsey Crisp and Hadara Bannister to create its biggest lead of the contest out of the gate. East Tennessee State (2-2) quickly responded with a shot from beyond the arc to cut the lead in half. Bannister put the gap back to five with a pair of free throws at 8-3 before a 7-0 rally from the Bucs made it 10-8 in favor of the home side.
Brevard was able to cut the deficit down to three, after another triple from Bannister and a post move from Madison Lenox made it 24-21 with 3:33 left in the half, but an 8-0 run from ETSU gave the Bucs their largest lead of the half at 32-21. Before the intermission the two sides exchanged three’s with Shelby Wolf scoring the Tornados triple.
Following five-straight points from East Tennessee State to start the half, Crisp matched with a 5-0 run of her own to bring the game back to within 11. The hosts countered with another 5-0 rally to recreate the 16 point gap.
Crisp led the offense with 14 points, shooting 6-12 from the field. Bannister also finished in double digits with 10 points.
Defensively, Lenox provided four steals and three blocks. Brevard has had four blocks in every contest thus far this season, with Wolfe having the other one while also leading the team with eight rebounds.
So far this season, ETSU has won every contest played on its home court. Last season the team only lost twice when playing in Brooks Gym.
Brevard will return to Tennessee on Tuesday, Nov. 24 when they begin South Atlantic Conference play at Tusculum. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 p.m.
