Alfonso named preseason second team all-SAC; Tornados picked ninth

ROCK Hill, S.C. – Sophomore midfielder Anthony Alfonso has tabbed preseason second team all-SAC by the conference coaches on Tuesday.

The Port Charlotte, Fla., product is coming off a freshman campaign where he scored 30 goals and six assists for 36 points, the second-most goal totals in a season in Brevard’s history and the fourth-best points total. Alfonso scored multiple goals on nine different occasions throughout the season.

The preseason nod is the first for the men’s lacrosse team.

Brevard was picked to finish ninth by the conference coaches with 18 points, one behind Lincoln Memorial. In 2014, the Tornados went 8-8 overall and 3-5 in league games to make the SAC Tournament where they took on Lenoir-Rhyne.

Queens was picked to finish first in the conference with 75 points and four first place votes. Lenoir-Rhyne was voted second with 70 points, followed by Wingate and Coker with 58 and 54.

The Tornados open up the 2016 season on Feb. 6 when they take on Pfeiffer on the road at 2:00 p.m. Brevard plays its first home contest on Feb. 10 against Mt. Olive at 4:00 p.m.
