Tornados drop season opener at North GeorgiaJanuary 31, 2016
Dahlonega, Ga. – Brevard College’s women’s tennis team opened up the 2016 campaign on Sunday afternoon against North Georgia, falling to the hosts Nighthawks 9-0.
In doubles action the Tornados’s top returners, Anita Maryskova and Nirvanna Silva, paired up in the first doubles slot to take on North Georgia’s (2-0) formidable duo of Felicia Baratta and Kathrin Waider. In the second flight, Sam Miranda and Katie Hatter paired up against the Nighthawks Sandra Ungricht and Karina Gurgenyan while Kristen Rathbun and Claire Dysart took the final position against Mathilde Baartvedt and Simone Krog. BC dropped all three skirmishes.
In singles play, the same six Tornados took the court with similar results. Maryskova was placed in the top singles slot against Waidner, marking her first appearance at the first position. Miranda had the best outing for the royal blue and white, taking on Ungritch in the third spot. Silva took the second slot against the Nighthawks’s Gurgenyan with Hatter at four against Hannah Stanford, Rathbun at five against Lexa Rae Loden and Dysart at six versus Emma Etelahti.
Brevard is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 13 when they begin South Atlantic Conference play at Newberry with first serve scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
