Brevard falls to Newberry on the roadFebruary 12, 2016
NEWBERRY, S.C. – Brevard College’s men’s tennis hosted traveled to Newberry for its South Atlantic Conference opener, losing to the hosts 9-0. With the loss Brevard drops to 0-3 on the season.
Brevard began the contest down, as Newberry earned two points by default at the third doubles spot and sixth singles spot.
In doubles action the duo of David Taggart and Tom Mittring paired up at the top slot, dropping an 8-1 decision to their counterparts Fernando Tous and Fernando Espana. At the second position, Christoph Plasa and Tim Hengst took on Jornad Monosky and Jacob Svantesson, losing 8-1.
Newberry clinched the victory at 5-0 following a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Dan Taylor by the Wolves Amble. Hengst and Plasa took on Monoski and Svantesson again, this time in individual play, with both falling by 6-1, 6-2 results.
The final contest to go two sets was Taggart on court one, who for the second-consecutive contest forced his opponent to win seven games in the opener before dropping the second 6-2. Mittring, playing in the second positon, lost 8-3 in a pro-set.
Brevard is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 20 when they hosts Queens University with first serve scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
