BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College’s women’s tennis team hosted Queens University on Saturday afternoon, falling to the nationally-ranked Royals 9-0. With the loss Brevard drops to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in South Atlantic Conference play.
In doubles play, Katie Hatter and Kristen Rathbun paired up in the third position falling 8-0 to Carlotta Nassi and Jasmine Woods. Rachael Stanford and Sam Miranda saw an identical score at the second spot to Marta Gonzalez and Jacklyn Pfuhl. Doubles action wrapped up with Brevard’s top pair of Anita Maryskova and Nirvanna Silva losing 8-1 to their Queens’ counterparts Claire Hamilton and Hannah Lehfeldt.
Singles play saw improvements, with individuals putting together much more competitive outing. Stanford was the first contest to end in a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Caroline Nielsen. In the top slot, Maryskova fell to Nassi 6-0, 6-1 followed by a 6-1, 6-0 Miranda defeat to Melissa Laing. At the sixth-slot, Claire Dysart took one game from her opposition in the first set, but lost 6-1, 6-0 overall. Courts two and five were the last to finish with both Hatter and Silva falling 6-0 in their respected sets but were able to take games from their counterparts in 6-0, 6-2 ad 6-0, 6-1 decisions.
Brevard returns to the courts tomorrow when they take on Anderson on the road with first serve slated for 1:00 p.m.
