Tornados fall to Anderson on the roadFebruary 25, 2016
ANDERSON, S.C. – Brevard College’s women’s tennis team traveled to Anderson on Thursday evening to take on the Trojans in a South Atlantic Conference match, losing to the hosts 9-0. With the loss Brevard drops to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in SAC play.
In doubles action Sam Miranda and Rachael Stanford paired up on court two, losing to Anderson’s (5-1, 2-0 SAC) duo of Karen Faria and Alexandra Ebner 8-0. In the third position, Kristen Rathbun and Katie Hatter fell to Abigail Gregory and Elizabeth Beachy of Anderson 8-0. At the top flight, Anita Maryskova and Nirvanna Silva fell to their counterparts Ivey Welborn and Rebecca Bruning 8-1.
In singles play, Hatter’s match was the first to finish as she lost to Anderson’s Nikkola Wichenko at the fourth position 6-0, 6-0. Miranda and Rathbun saw similar results on courts three and six as they fell to Jennifer Holcombe and Carolia Monteiro to clinch the Trojans victory.
Maryskova’s contest against Faria in the first spot was the final match to go to sets, with Maryskova falling 6-0, 6-1. The final two contests were decided in eight game pro-sets, with Silva losing to Ebner on court two 8-1 and Claire Dysart losing to Natalia San Jose at the fifth position 8-0.
The Tornados will have little rest as they return to action on Friday, Feb. 26, when they host Wingate with first serve scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
