YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - Brevard College’s men’s lacrosse team took on Young Harris on Saturday afternoon, losing to the hosts 24-7. With the loss, Brevard drops to 0-4 on the season.
Young Harris (1-4) scored the opening goal of the contest, but the Tornados responded with back-to-back scores from Mathew Dropuljic and Brendan Friss to take the 2-1 advantage.Young Harris added two more before the first ended to retake the lead, and added two more before a second Dropuljic goal made it 3-6.
Brevard got another two-goal spurt midway through the second period, as Anthony Alfonso and Josh Nicholson both scored to make it 5-8. The Tornados were able to add one more tally before halftime, with Jackson McKaig scoring in the final minute of the second period to make it 11-6 heading into the intermission.
The Tornados final score of the game came from Davis Buono, who scored his first goal of the season late in the third stanza off the pass from Alfonso to make it 17-7. Young Harris ended the game contest on a 7-0 run.
Dropuljic and Alfonso both ended the contest with two points, with two goals for one and a goal and assist for the other.
Natron Curtis led the Tornados with four ground balls, followed by Alex Bazzell, Dennis Rammaher and Buono who all posted three. Cole Hansen, Nick Bier, Josh Nicholson and Alfonso all logged caused turnovers.
In goal, Peyton Mooney stopped 13 shots while in goal, posting a 48.1 save percentage. Colton Girard and Xzavier Holmes also saw time protecting the net.
The Tornados will be back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 2, when they take on Belmont Abbey on the road. Game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
