Strong doubles play not enough for Brevard against TritonsMarch 2, 2016
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Brevard College’s men’s tennis team continued its spring break schedule on Wednesday morning against the University of Missouri – St. Louis, losing 8-1. With the result, the Tornados drop to 0-8 overall.
Brevard picked up its first doubles victory of the season in the contest, as David Taggart and Tom Mittring defeated Alberta Maza and Robert White from the University of Missouri – St. Louis (4-0) in a back-and-forth 8-6 set at the top slot. Tim Hengst and Christoph Plasa had their best outing as a pair in an 8-5 loss against Dario Vidavure and Irving Corrales on court two.
The Tornados only played three players in single action, with Taggart not participating due to injury. Mittring, playing his first game at the top flight for the royal blue and white, lost 6-4, 6-2 to his Tritons’ counterpart Fabian Frank. Hengst and Plasa both fell in their opening sets 6-0, with Hengst losing in the second 6-0 while Plasa made a strong push to almost force a tiebreaker but falling short of the comeback in the second set 6-4.
The Tornados are back in action tomorrow, Mar. 3, when they take on St. John Fisher in Hilton Head, S.C.
