Tornados rally back to best St. John FisherMarch 3, 2016
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Brevard College’s women’s tennis team picked up its second win of the week, this time with a 6-3 victory over St. John Fisher. With the win, the Tornados improve to 2-6 overall.
St. John Fisher (0-2) earned the opening two points in tight doubles games, as Cardine Seaberg and Katey Padden won 8-3 over Sam Miranda and Katie Hatter at the second position followed an 8-6 win for the Cardinals on court three over Rachael Stanford and Kristen Rathbun. Brevard’s top duo of Anita Maryskova and Nirvanna Silva picked up the win on court one 8-5 over Sarah Sorreneino and Oliva Rotando.
Maryskova, playing at the top slot, bested Sorreneino in singles play to knot up the match 2-2. Silva also bested her counterpart on court two with a 6-4, 6-2 win.
With the result still in the balance, three of the final four matches went into the 10 point tiebreaker. Miranda and Rotando went the distance in their tilt, as Miranda lost the opening set 5-7 on court three before prevailing 6-3 in the sequel. Their tiebreaker went back-and-forth, but Miranda was able to put the Tornados one point away from the win with a 13-11 result. Hatter lost her tilt at the fifth position 6-3, 6-0.
Stanford lost her first set 7-6, but cruised in the second frame 6-2. In the tiebreaker, Stanford clinched the Tornados victory with a 10-5 triumph in the tiebreaker. The contest ended with Claire Dysart and Herrman in the sixth positon, as both team’s watched and cheered for their respected player. Dysart fell in the first set 6-1 before knotting up their match with a 6-2 victory. In the tiebreaker, Dysart pulled ahead and was able to end the day with a win with a 10-6 score.
The Tornados are back in action tomorrow, Mar. 4, when they conclude their spring break schedule in Hilton Head, S.C. against regional foe Belmont Abbey.
