JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Brevard College’s women’s tennis team played its second-consecutive contest in Tennessee on Tuesday afternoon against Carson-Newman, losing to the host Eagles 9-0. With the result, the Tornados drop to 2-10 overall and 0-6 in South Atlantic Conference play.
In doubles action, Anita Maryskova and Nirvanna Silva paired up at Brevard’s top slot, falling to their Carson-Newman (5-2, 1-2 SAC) counterparts 8-0. Katie Hatter and Kristen Rathbun, playing at the third position, fell by an identical score against Mallory Jackson and Haleigh Chastain of the Eagles. Doubles play concluded at the second spot, where Rachael Stanford and Sam Miranda lost 8-2 against Ali Harris and Brooke Sanderson.
Carson-Newman clinched the victory with 6-0, 6-0 victories in singles play on courts four and five against Brevard’s Rachael Stanford and Hatter. Rathbun, playing on court six, was the next contest to end with a 6-1, 6-0 result against Jackson of the Eagles. Silva and Maryskova, playing at the two spots, took games in their opening sets, but lost 6-1, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-0 against C-N’s Ali Harris and Patricia Guerrerio. The match ended on court three, where Miranda lost to Jil Corasto 6-1, 6-1.
The Tornados are back in action on Thursday, Mar. 17, when they take on North Greenville on the road at 2:00 p.m.
