Hengst nets first-career conference victory in Tornados match with Carson-NewmanMarch 15, 2016
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Brevard College’s men’s tennis team took on Carson-Newman on Tuesday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference match, losing to the host Eagles 8-1. With the result, Brevard drops to 1-11 overall and 0-6 in SAC play.
Brevard’s top doubles team of David Taggart and Tom Mittring gave their Carson-Newman (2-5, 1-2 SAC) counterparts a competitive bout, but fell short in an 8-5 loss to Stefano Daza and Juan Sebastian Perez. At the second slot, Christoph Plasa and Tim Hengst paired up in an 8-2 result against Joao Pedro Oliveira and Jesus Barcete. C-N picked up a third point in doubles play off a default game on court three.
Carson-Newman moved on point closer to victory with a default victory on court six, clinching the result with a 6-0, 6-0 result over Dan Taylor at the fifth position. Hengst earned Brevard its lone point of the match with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Daza at the third position. The victory marks the freshman’s first SAC win.
Plasa and Mittring were the next two matches to end, with a 6-2, 6-1 result at the fourth slot and a 6-4, 6-2 loss at court two. The final match to end was Taggart on the main court, taking Oliveira three sets. The senior started strong with a 1-6 victory, but lost the next two 6-4, 6-0 to end conclude the match.
The Tornados are back in action on Thursday, Mar. 17, when they take on North Greenville on the road at 2:00 p.m.
