Brevard drops conference match against CatawbaMarch 22, 2016
BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College’s women’s tennis team hosted Catawba College on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the visitors 9-0. With the result, the Tornados drop to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in South Atlantic Conference play.
In doubles action, Kristen Rathbun and Katie Hatter paired up on court three against Catawba’s (11-8, 2-5 SAC) Maddy Henderson and Rachel Rudisill, losing 8-1. Rachael Stanford and Sam Miranda, playing at the second position, lost by an identical score against their Catawba counterparts Emily Corcoran and Lauren Sledd. At the top flight, Anita Maryskova and Nirvanna Silva gave Liz Renteria and Erisa Onchi a competitive match, but couldn’t get the victory in an 8-4 decision.
Catawba quickly clinched the victory in singles action, sweeping courts two, four and five against Maryskova, Stanford and Hatter. Silva, playing at the top spot, was the next match to conclude leaving courts three and six still in action. Claire Dysart almost fought her way back into the opening set at the sixth slot, but lost to Corcoran 6-3 before a 6-1 set two ended the match. Miranda was the final match to end, losing at the third position 6-2, 6-2.
Brevard is back in action tomorrow, Mar. 23, when they host Mars Hill at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the match beginning, the Tornados will be honoring their senior class.
