Top 10 finish by Turner highlights Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Brevard College’s track and field team competed in the 2016 Adidas Winthrop College Invitational over the weekend, going up against a field filled with Division I programs.

Brevard had its best outing in the developmental 1500, as Brent Turner finished third in the event with a 4:07.97 time. Caleb Stanley also competed in the 1500, finishing in the top 25 with a 5:03.92 run. Hannah Cook ran on the women’s side, placing in the top half of the field with a 5:23.62 finish.

Halana Gittens finished third in her 100 meter preliminary heat with a 13.22 run while Tiela Smith finished fourth in her heat with a 15.42 time.

Marlowe Macklin led Brevard in a 100 meter field with eight Tornados participating with an 11.54 time, with Jacques Ash and Jackson Vause right behind him with 11.61 and 11.62 finishes. Ash also competed in the 200 meter event, finishing in the middle of the pack with a 23.79 run while Joshua Grinstead finished the run with a 24.49 time. Grinstead, Vause, Ash and Travion Moncrieff teamed up in the men’s 4x100 relay, placing ninth with a 43.92 overall time.

Chris Hamrick competed in the shot put, throwing it 9.04 meters. Rachel Ruble competed on the women’s side, throwing 8.71 meters.

The Tornados are back in action on Saturday, April 2, when they compete at the Wofford Terrier Relays.
