Harrienger sets single season record in Tornados' loss to Lenoir-RhyneMarch 28, 2016
BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College’s women’s lacrosse team hosted Lenoir-Rhyne in a South Atlantic Conference skirmish on Monday afternoon, falling to the visiting Bears 19-7. With the loss, the Tornados drop to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in SAC play.
In the contest, sophomore Livia Harrienger set the program record for assists in a season. Needing only one to set it, Harrienger ended the contest with two.
Lenoir-Rhyne (7-5, 4-0 SAC) opened up the contest with three-straight goals before a Caitlyn Nemeth score off the pass from Nina Siu ended the visitors’ run. Nemeth ended another three-goal spurt by the Bears seven minutes later, making it 6-2. Following another LR goal, Harrienger set the program record with Shelby Klotz scoring the goal. Klotz added one more tally before the intermission, scoring with 18 seconds left to cut the deficit to five at 9-4.
In similar fashion to the prior half, Lenoir-Rhyne came out and scored three-straight. Nemeth countered with back-to-back goals to make it 12-6, but a 5-0 run by the visitors extended the lead to double-digits at 17-6. Klotz and Harrienger teamed up for Brevard’s final tally of the contest, making it 17-7 with 10:30 remaining.
Nemeth paced the offense with four goals, followed by Klotz who posted three goals for her second-consecutive hat trick. Harrienger and Siu contributed Brevard’s three assists.
Amber Breedy anchored the defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Sade Allen led the team in ground balls recorded with four.
Brevard is back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 28, when they take on Newberry on the road at 5:00 p.m.
