Tornados finish 15th at Agnes McAmis MemorialApril 5, 2016
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Brevard College women’s golf team finished in 15th place at the Agnes McAmis Memorial hosted by Tusculum on Tuesday after improving upon its first-round score by six strokes.
Taylor Scovel showed the most improvement of the group, besting her Monday effort by five strokes en route to a 14-over 86. She led the team by finishing in a tie for 59th.
Kelsie Rhyne was one shot back of Scovel with a two-day score of 178 to finish tied for 63rd overall. Courtney Sharp finished in 67th three shots behind Rhyne, while Maddie Lutz provided the Tornados’ final score at 194. ZeAijah Mooney and Kindle Kirkham, competing as an individual, rounded out the Brevard contingent in attendance.
South Atlantic Conference foe Newberry surged to a win after finishing 18 holes in fourth position, besting Lincoln Memorial by one stroke for the team title. The Wolves improved by eight strokes as a team on Tuesday, while the Lady Railsplitters finished 13 strokes behind the pace they set in the first round.
Carson-Newman finished a stroke behind Lincoln Memorial in third place, with King and Tusculum rounding out the top five. Brevard was one of seven SAC teams in attendance for the final competition before next week’s 2016 SAC Golf Championship.
Carson-Newman’s Elizabeth England shot an even-par 72 in the second round to finish five strokes clear of the competition at four over for the tournament. King’s Elizabeth Swallow and Newberry’s Nabila Inak shared runner-up honors.
The Tornados return to action on Sunday for the first round of the SAC Golf Championship, a 54-hole tournament hosted by Wingate at the Monroe Country Club near Charlotte.
