Rathbun wins first conference match in Tornados' loss to Lenoir-RhyneApril 9, 2016
HICKORY, N.C. – Brevard College’s women’s tennis team took on Lenoir-Rhyne in their final road contest of the season, losing to the host Bears 8-1. With the loss, Brevard drops to 2-16 overall and 0-10 in South Atlantic Conference play.
In the contest, Kristen Rathbun won her first SAC singles match. The sophomore took on Meaghan Liner of Lenoir-Rhyne (7-13, 2-9 SAC), besting her counterpart 8-3 in a pro-style set.
Anita Maryskova, playing at Brevard’s top flight, took games from her LR competitor in both sets of a 6-1, 6-2 loss. Nirvanna Silva and Katie Hatter both posted 6-0, 6-1 results on courts two and four while Rachael Stanford lost 6-0, 6-0 and Claire Dysart fell 8-0 in a pro-style set.
In doubles play, Maryskova and Silva split the first four games in their match with Dominique Brice and Marta Escanero Funes at the top spot, but a late run by the Bears’ duo propelled them to an 8-3 win. Stanford and Hatter paired up at the second slot, losing 8-0, while Dysart and Rathbun played in an 8-1 match at the third position.
Brevard wraps up the 2016 campaign on Sunday, April 10, when they host Coker at 2:00 p.m.
