Taggart ends career with victory in doublesApril 10, 2016
BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College’s men’s tennis team concluded the 2016 season on Sunday afternoon with a home match against Coker, losing to the visiting Cobras 8-1. Brevard finishes the season 1-19 overall and 0-11 in South Atlantic Conference play.
In the contest, senior David Taggart ended his collegiate career with an 8-5 victory at Brevard’s top doubles flight with Tom Mittring. The win was his sixth in doubles play this season, 16th overall. In his four-year career with the royal blue and white, Taggart has posted 21 victories at Brevard’s top doubles slot and 33 victories in singles.
In singles play, Taggart had a rematch with William Marrafao, a match Taggart won in the fall. This outing, also played at the top flight, saw Coker’s (8-11, 6-5 SAC) Marrafao prevailed 6-4, 6-3. Mittring played at the second position, losing to Tom Sizeland by an identical score. Tim Hengst and Christoph Plasa, playing on courts three and four, both fell 6-2 in their opening sets with 6-3 and 6-4 second set results. Dan Taylor played at the fifth position against Simon Bergom, losing 6-0, 6-0.
Along with Taggart and Mittring, Hengst and Plasa paired up at the second doubles position losing 8-0.
