Nemeth breaks SAC record in Tornados' record-setting victory over MontreatApril 12, 2016
MONTREAT, N.C. – Brevard College’s women’s lacrosse team concluded its road schedule on Tuesday against Montreat, besting the host 25-2. With the victory, Brevard improves to 9-5 on the season.
With her first goal of the contest, Caitlyn Nemeth broke the South Atlantic Conference record for most goals scored in a season. Heading into today’s game, the sophomore from Old Bridge, New Jersey, led Division II in goals per game average while tied for the most goals scored. Nemeth scored six goals to increase her season total to 64.
As a team, Brevard set the program record for goals in a contest, assist in a contest, shots in a contest and largest margin of victory.
A plethora of Tornados recorded career-highs in the victory, highlighted by Livia Harrienger who dished out five assists to set break the program record. Ashlea Mann and Kelly Kearnan both set their single-game highs in goals and points in the contest with six points apiece, coming off five and four goals. Nina Siu posted three assists to set her career-high while Shelby Klotz matched hers with five goals scored.
Brevard’s balanced attack was visible in the opening 4-0 run, with Allie McMillan, Maan, Kearnan and Nemeth all recording goals. Montreat (1-14) ending the run with a goal, followed by a 19-0 run by Brevard that started with 22:24 remaining in the first half and stretched deep into the second half when a Montreat goal with 7:26 remaining in the contest ended the spree. Brevard’s final tally of the contest came from Megan Binkley, her first career goal.
With a berth in the South Atlantic Conference Championship already clinched, Brevard will battle for better seeding in the tournament when they host Wingate on Saturday, April 16 at 4:00 p.m. The winner of the contest will likely be hosting a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, April 26.
