Whitson named Tornado Athlete of the Week

Men's basketball player Jonathan Whitson has been named Tornado Athlete of the Week. Whitson earned 12 of 44 votes cast in a very tight race, or 27.3%.

The junior from Clyde, N.C. was Brevard's top scorer in a 1-1 week. Wednesday in a 101-97 overtime win over Carson-Newman, Whitson scored 30 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Saturday in a 72-55 loss to Tusculum, Whitson scored 24 points and grabbed four rebounds.

On the season, Whitson leads the Tornados with 19.7 ppg and 8.7 rpg. He is the SAC's top rebounder.

The Tornado Athlete of the Week is determined by a fan poll on the frontpage of BCTornados.com. Candidates for the Tornado Athlete of the Week award are announced and voting opens every Saturday night at 10 p.m. Voting closes on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
