Lundgren named all-South Atlantic Conference second team

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Junior Oskar Lundgren has been named to the all-South Atlantic Conference second team after a vote of the league’s 12 coaches.

Lundgren has been Brevard’s top golfer all season. He earned a first-place finish at the Hummingbird Invitational, a Division I tournament hosted by Western Carolina, with a school-record five-under 66 to close the fall portion of the schedule.

In 10 events played this season, he has four top-five, five top-10, and seven top-20 finishes and has finished ahead of over 80 percent of his competitors on the season. Perhaps most impressively, Lundgren has failed to finish inside the top one-third of the field just once this season.

The Umea, Sweden native has a stroke average of 73.2 for the season, ranked 67th in Division II and sixth in the South Atlantic Conference. He has completed 17 of his 20 rounds this season in 75 strokes or less and leads the team in six statistical categories. He has twice been named to all-tournament teams in back-to-back competitions, including carding a runner-up performance at the Tennessee River Rumble three days after a fifth-place finish at the Etowah Spring Challenge earlier this month.

Lundgren becomes the fourth player to earn all-conference honors since the school’s transition to NCAA Division II, joining Grant Carnie (2009 – first team), Kim Koivu (2012 and 2013 – first team), and Luis Vega (2015 – honorable mention) in the elite club.

Tusculum’s Brad Hawkins was named SAC Men’s Golfer of the Year after leading Division II with a 70.1 stroke average. Fellow first team selection Sam Broadhurst of Lincoln Memorial was named Freshman of the Year, while Randy Wylie of Carson-Newman was named Coach of the Year.
