Tornados set program record in regular season finaleApril 16, 2016
BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College’s women’s lacrosse team played its final game of the 2016 regular season on Saturday afternoon against Wingate, losing to the visiting Bulldogs 15-6. Brevard ends regulation with a 9-6 overall record and 4-4 mark in South Atlantic Conference play.
With the six goals and three assists, the Tornados set the program record for points in a season with 227.
For the second-consecutive contest, sophomore Kelly Kearnan recorded a hat trick. With her team-high three goals, Kearnan moved into fifth place for points in a career in program history with 38 and jumped her into sixth for most points in a season with 24.
Kearnan kicked off the contest with a goal, but a 5-0 run by Wingate gave the visitors the lead. Caitlyn Nemeth and Ashlea Mann scored back-to-back goals to chip into the lead, but a two-goal response from Wingate recreated the four-goal lead. Kearnan added one more BC goal before the intermission, while she and Nemeth both scored one goal apiece in the second half.
Nemeth filled up the stat sheet with two goals, one assist, four ground balls and one draw control. Kearnan, Penina Fungalei and Shelby Arsenault all collected three ground balls in the contest while Sade Allen caused a team-high two turnovers.
With the regular season finished, Brevard awaits the draw for the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The quarterfinals will take place on Tuesday, April 26, with location and time announced later.
